Kenneth Branagh joins a new Paramount+ TV series blending Succession and Game of Thrones. The Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe-winning actor, writer and director will star and executive produce the show.
Kenneth Branagh stars in Paramount+ drama series set in the Scottish Highlands
Kenneth Branagh will be seen in a new TV series, Laird, greenlighted by Paramount+.
The official synopsis for the Laird TV series reads, “Set in the modern Scottish Highlands, Laird is an epic family saga in which a proud Scot defies a shadowy American billionaire hellbent on buying up the glens. Amidst family feuds, buried secrets and star-crossed romances, the Laird of Castle Drummoch (Branagh) remains determined to protect his ancestral lands from oligarchical land grabbing.”
The brand new TV show could be a great mix of previous iconic shows such as Succession and Game of Thrones that featured the elements of rich individuals in a modern-day setting and family feuds in a castle setting.
Laird is created by Jez Butterworth (MobLand), John-Henry Butterworth (Nine Perfect Strangers, The Agency), and Georgia Lee (The 100, Partner Track).
Alongside Branagh, other executive producers on the Paramount+ TV show include David C. Glasser, Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, and Joe Wright. Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Charles Finch, and Keith Cox are also executive producing.
Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Darkest Hour, Cyrano) is set to direct the pilot as well. “At its heart, Laird is about one man standing his ground against unchecked wealth and power,” said Head of Originals for Paramount+, Jane Wiseman.
She added, “There’s something universally resonant about watching someone fight to protect what matters most, and with Kenneth Branagh leading the series, and an equally remarkable creative team, we can’t wait for audiences to root for the Laird of Castle Drummoch.”
Laird TV show from Paramount+ has yet to receive an official release window.
