The Walking Dead’s Next Chapter Is Arriving Very Soon

The Walking Dead: Dead City’s biggest season yet drops sooner than you think. Everything to know about Season 3’s premiere date, new cast additions, and the long-awaited shift between two fan-favorite characters.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 to release on AMC and AMC+ soon

AMC launches The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The eight-episode season will air weekly through Sunday, September 13, 2026. Both AMC and AMC+ will carry the series for viewers. Seth Hoffman steps in as the new showrunner, taking over from Eli Jorné. Hoffman brings prior experience from working on the original Walking Dead series.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan reprise their roles as Negan and Maggie for the third season. Logan Kim returns as Hershel alongside Gaius Charles and Želijko Ivanek in recurring parts. Several fresh faces join the cast this time around. Aimee Garcia stars as a survivor called Renata after previous turns in Dexter and Lucifer. Jimmi Simpson plays Dillard, a bar operator convinced he can talk to walkers. Raúl Castillo takes on the role of Luis, while Michael Emery appears in an unspecified part.

AMC has confirmed that the long-running feud between Maggie and Negan finally reaches resolution this season. Cohan shared with Entertainment Weekly that audiences will witness the “biggest turning over of a new leaf for Maggie and Negan that there’s ever been.” She added that Maggie openly requests Negan’s assistance instead of resorting to manipulation.

Morgan described the upcoming season as the show’s “best season by far” at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. He noted that Negan becomes “more multidimensional” throughout the new episodes.

Iconic New York settings like the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station serve as backdrops this season. Hoffman disclosed plans for an alternate-reality episode exploring a world without the apocalypse. That concept allows long-absent characters to potentially rejoin the franchise. Behind-the-scenes photos of Emily Kinney and Cohan together hint at Beth Greene’s involvement. Hoffman further teased walkers possessing names and a “level of personality” in the upcoming run.
