House of the Dragon Season 4 Filming Window Hints at Final Season’s Release Date

House of the Dragon Season 4 filming window is revealed, which has led to a possible release date. Showrunner Ryan Condal says it will be the biggest season yet. With Season 3 releasing on HBO and Max on June 21, Condal is already deep into writing the final season of the Game of Thrones prequel, and he’s offering the first real clues about when production could begin.

Ryan Condal reveals House of the Dragon Season 4 filming window

Ryan Condal said cameras for House of the Dragon Season 4 could start rolling as early as next spring. A timeline that is largely influenced by the British climate.

“[Filming] is a bit beholden to the British weather, and particularly the light,” he told Deadline. “We always have to straddle the British summer, which just means starting filming in the spring then wrapping before it gets dark again. And because it takes over a year to prep and then shoot the show, it just sort of slots it into this place where we are in the year,” Condal added.

A spring 2027 start would put House of the Dragon Season 4 on track for a 2028 release date. It is also consistent with the roughly two-year gap between previous seasons. Condal also confirmed that Season 4 will have a similar episode count to earlier seasons, but the scale will be far greater. “It will be the biggest season we have made, for sure,” he said, adding that “the ambition” for the final run is “massive.”

Moreover, even as Season 3 prepares to launch, Condal is fully immersed in crafting Season 4. He described the overlap as unavoidable. “Right now, we’re crafting Season 4 before we’ve even finished Season 3 and released it to the world,” he said. “I’m an ‘all good things come to an end’ type person. I don’t know what I will feel yet [when it finishes].”

All in all, his focus remains on delivering a final season worthy of the sprawling saga — one that promises to be the most ambitious one House of the Dragon has seen.
