Hijack Season 2 Ending & if Sam Goes To Prison Explained by Co-Creator

Hijack co-creator Jim Field Smith addressed questions about Sam Nelson’s fate following the events of the Season 2 finale. The filmmaker discussed what the ending suggests for the character after the Berlin U-Bahn crisis. He also outlined what the conclusion could mean for Sam’s future beyond the final episode.

Jim Field Smith explains what happens to Sam after Hijack Season 2 ending

According to Variety, writer and director Jim Field Smith indicates that Sam Nelson faces legal consequences after the events of Hijack Season 2. He strongly suggests that Sam would likely go to prison because of his actions during the Berlin U-Bahn crisis. Smith said the character could face charges for “hijacking,” “aiding and abetting a known criminal,” and “being accessory to murder” related to Freddie.

Season 2 ends as Sam orchestrates a subway hijacking while criminals connected to his son Kai’s death coerce him. The story reveals Stuart Atterton as the mastermind behind both the Berlin hijacking and Kai’s murder. Field Smith also confirmed that anyone who remained on the train during the explosion would not have survived.

Field Smith explained that Sam and Otto escape the train shortly before it explodes, while John Bailey-Brown remains handcuffed inside. He stated that the implication is that “Otto and Sam got off before the train exploded.” The same scene confirms that Bailey-Brown would not survive the blast.

The season places Sam in Berlin on an underground train system designed to contrast with the aircraft setting of the first season. Field Smith said the creative goal was to reverse the premise and explore the question: “What if Sam’s the bad guy?” The writer described the new setting as “the absolute opposite of a jet liner traveling at 35,000 feet.”

Field Smith discussed the possibility of continuing Sam’s story beyond Season 2. He said the main question would be whether there is “more story” for the character to explore. He also noted that any potential continuation could take the narrative in different directions depending on the story.
