Supernatural Shocker: Sam & Dean’s Cut Plot Details Revealed by Showrunner

Supernatural explored several themes throughout its 15-season run. However, multiple storylines ended up on the cutting room floor, with showrunner Andrew Dabb revealing a shocking plot that failed to make the show.

In a recent interview, the veteran television writer noted that he once wanted Jensen AcklesDean and Jared Padalecki’s Sam to disclose their mythical misadventures to the world, but ultimately decided to scrap the idea.

Supernatural showrunner details scrapped storyline about Sam and Dean going public about monsters

While speaking with TV Insider, Andrew Dabb, who supervised the final four seasons of Supernatural alongside Robert Singer, remarked that he wanted Sam and Dean to go public about their encounters with monsters. However, a hoard of reasons, including logistical ones, restricted Dabb from adding this storyline to the aptly named Supernatural series.

“One storyline we always talked about, which we never did, was basically Sam and Dean go public,” the Ghostbusters: Legion writer said. He added, “They’re like, ‘Look, we’re putting out a PSA. Monsters are real. If you see something, something shows up in your town, it’s a monster. We can’t be everywhere. We’re just going to get the word out there.'”

However, Dabb and the Supernatural team ultimately decided to do away with the storyline, with the former stating that “it would’ve kind of blown up the show in a very odd way.” He also noted that materializing such an arc would’ve been “logistically difficult for the show,” before explaining the consequences of Sam and Dean revealing their true nature to the world.

“Suddenly, Sam and Dean are known worldwide, which, again, I think sounds interesting in theory, but I actually think would’ve destroyed the show. It would not have been any good, which is one of the reasons we didn’t do it,” Dabb remarked.

Having made its small-screen debut in 2005 with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki in leading roles, Supernatural concluded its prolonged run on TV with its 15th season in 2020.
