Marvel Zombies is making headlines as new cast members are confirmed to return in the upcoming animated series. The announcement has sparked speculation about their roles, with fans debating whether these characters will appear as survivors, leaders, or part of the undead.
Wyatt Russell’s John Walker to return in Marvel Zombies with Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie
Tessa Thompson will return as Valkyrie, the King of New Asgard, first seen in Thor: Ragnarok. Wyatt Russell will voice John Walker, also known as U.S. Agent.
He debuted in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and recently appeared in Thunderbolts*. They join the Marvel cast with Paul Rudd, who reprises Scott Lang/Ant-Man after his appearance as a disembodied head in the What If…? episode, “What If… Zombies!?”
Marvel Zombies is a spin-off of What…If?. It expands on the storyline introduced in the Season 1 episode where a quantum virus infected Earth’s heroes. Victims included Iron Man and Scarlet Witch.
That episode ended with Peter Parker, T’Challa, and Scott Lang traveling to Wakanda. They hoped to create a cure using the Mind Stone, but they did not know that a zombified Thanos waited there with five Infinity Stones. The new series continues that alternate universe. It introduces several characters who joined the MCU after 2018, such as Valkyrie and U.S. Agent.
The updated synopsis describes the show as follows: “After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.”
The cast also includes Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as Katy, and David Harbour as Red Guardian.
The four-episode event series will premiere on Disney+ later this year.
