Bewitched Reboot in the Works at Sony Pictures TV

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Television is currently developing a Bewitched reboot series of the classic ’60s sitcom. The project hails from The Boys executive producer Judalina Neira, who has just signed an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television through her Famous Last Words Productions.

“Judalina joined the Sony family with her work on The Boys, and we are incredibly proud of her contributions to supporting creator Eric Kripke’s vision,” Sony Pictures TV executive Lauren Stein said in a statement. “She brings passion and authenticity and has been such a champion for the representation and growth of Latinx writers — we knew we had to make a deal with her! We are so excited to have her call Sony home and can’t wait for what is to come as we deepen our relationship.”

Who’s involved in the Bewitched reboot?

Described as an “irreverent hourlong reimagination of the original, The Bewitched reboot will be written and executive produced by Neira. The project will be executive produced by Doug Robinson and Lauren Moffat. In 2021, it was reported that Sony Pictures was a developing another film adaptation of Bewitched, with 12 Monkeys scribe Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett previously attached to write. However, at the moment, there has been no update regarding the current status of the remake.

“It’s been such a pleasure telling wicked stories with the team at Sony TV these past few years,” Neira said. “I couldn’t be more amped to join forces with them for this next big step in my career. And under our newly launched Famous Last Words Productions, I’m excited to both write and produce a full slate of hooky character-forward shows that dish up delight with bite.”

The original sitcom ran-on air for eight seasons from 1964-1972. It starred Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha and Dick York/Dick Sargent as Darrin Stephens. It is considered one of the greatest sitcoms in television history, especially thanks to the show’s breaking of many cultural stereotypes at the time.
