Netflix Scott Pilgrim Anime Series in Development

A Scott Pilgrim anime series is currently in development at Netflix.

Per a report from THR, the anime series will adapt the hit graphic novel series that inspired the Ubisoft video game and the Edgar Wright film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, starring Michael Cera. The series is being developed by Netflix and Universal’s UCP, but does not have a series order just yet.

Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley is writing the animated series and will serve as an executive producer with BenDavid Grabinski (Are You Afraid of the Dark?). The duo will serve as showrunners should a series order be given.

As for the animation, anime studio Science SARU (Ping Pong the Animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!) will be handling production with Eunyoung Choi as producer and Abel Gongora serving as director. Science SARU recently contributed two episodes to Star Wars: Visions: “Akakiri” and “T0-B1.”

“Scott Pilgrim’s life is totally sweet. He’s 23 years old, he’s in a rock band, he’s ‘between jobs,’ and he’s dating a cute high school girl. Nothing could possibly go wrong, unless a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, rollerblading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties,” says the synopsis for the original graphic novel. “Will Scott’s awesome life get turned upside-down? Will he have to face Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle? The short answer is yes.”
