Luke Evans (Immortals, The Hobbit films, Beauty and the Beast) has been tapped in a lead role for Apple’s upcoming action series Echo 3, according to Variety. The 10-episode series comes from Oscar winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) who will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner along with Jason Horwitch.
Evans most recently starred in The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, The Pembrokeshire Murders, and Crisis. His upcoming projects include the miniseries adaptation Nine Perfect Strangers, Robert Zemeckis’ live-action Pinocchio for Disney, and the drama Bear Season.
Echo 3 is set in South America and follows Amber Chesborough, a brilliant young scientist, who is the emotional center of a small American family. When she goes missing along the Colombia-Venezuela border, her brother, Bambi (Evans), and her husband — two men with deep military experience and complicated pasts — struggle to find her in a drama set against the explosive backdrop of a secret war.
The project is produced by Apple and Keshet Studios.
Executive producers include Keshet Studios’ Peter Traugott, Boal, Horwitch, Stan Wlodkowski, Omri Givon, Eitan Mansuri, and Jonathan Doweck. Avi Nir of Keshet Media Group, Alon Shtruzman of Keshet International, and Karni Ziv of Keshet Broadcasting will also EP.
