Star Wars Series from Leslye Headland in Development at Disney+

Variety is reporting that a new Star Wars series is in development at Disney+ from Russian Doll co-creator and showrunner Leslye Headland.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the outlet notes that the series will be a female-centric show that takes place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other projects.

Headland will write and serve as showrunner on the series, which is currently staffing.

Besides the Emmy nominated Russian Doll, two-time Emmy nominee Headland’s credits also include serving as writer and director on the Seven Deadly Plays series as well as the 2014 remake of About Last Night and writing/directing Sleeping with Other People. Her television credits include Terriers, Blunt Talk, SMILF, and Black Monday. Headland is currently under an overall deal at Fox 21 Television Studios.

The news follows the recent announcement that The Mandalorian has already begun development on Season 3. Other Star Wars series in the works include the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor as well as the Cassian Andor Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna.
