Taylor Kitsch to star in and produce HBO drama series

Taylor Kitsch (True Detective, Waco) may be returning to HBO in a new drama series currently in development, Variety has confirmed. Kitsch would star in and executive produce the project.

Kitsch is best known for his TV roles in Friday Night Lights and True Detective. His television and movie credits include American Assassin, Only the Brave, Lone Survivor, Savages, Battleship, John Carter, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and most recently, Waco. Upcoming projects include 17 Bridges where he will star alongside Sienna Miller and Chadwick Boseman, and the crime drama Pieces.

Currently untitled, the new HBO project would find Kitsch playing Chris Klug, a young, family-oriented drug dealer who catches the wrong end of a bad batch of dope that leaves him in a temporary vegetative state. He discovers that it was no accident and someone close to him was in fact trying to take him out. The story will be told through flashbacks and Chris’ present-day purgatory.

The series is created by John Barcheski (Sons of Anarchy, The Bastard Executioner), who is writing and executive producing alongside Robert Munic, who will serve as showrunner. Matt Shakman will direct and executive produce the co-production between HBO and eOne.
