HBO’s Task just added a major action star to its already stacked Season 2 lineup. The crime drama continues to build its ensemble cast with a versatile actor known for blockbuster franchises and award-nominated performances.
Edgar Ramírez joins the growing cast of HBO’s Task season 2
Édgar Ramírez has joined the second season of HBO’s crime drama Task, as Deadline first reported. He joins returning star Mark Ruffalo alongside previously announced new additions Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis, and Aminah Nieves. Ramírez will portray Miguel Contreras, described as “a devoted family man and loyal DEA second-in-command torn between duty and guilt.”
Ali plays Eddie Barnes, a seasoned DEA agent in Philadelphia whose team enters conflict with Ruffalo’s unit. The official Season 2 logline states, “Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) takes the helm of a new task force, but the deeper the operation runs, the harder it is to tell who’s the target.” The first season followed Brandis forming a task force to track down masked robbers carrying out violent crimes in Philadelphia.
Task debuted to strong critical and audience acclaim during its first season. It currently holds a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many consider it a leading contender for this year’s Emmy Awards.
Ramírez previously appeared in HBO’s limited series The Undoing opposite Nicole Kidman. He earned two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for title roles in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and Carlos. His recent credits include the Cannes jury prize-winning Emilia Perez, which received ten Golden Globe nominations.
Brad Ingelsby created the series and serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Ruffalo executive produces alongside Paul Lee and Mark Roybal for wiip, Jeremiah Zagar, and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Karen Wacker serve as co-executive producers on the project. Audiences can stream the first season of Task on HBO Max.
