We already know Will Ferrell pretty much does whatever he wants. Be it commercials for Old Milwaukee beer or a film entirely in Spanish, he will try anything he gets a kick out of. So, even though on the surface it is surprising, him tackling the Lifetime movie A Deadly Adoption, it actually falls right within that mindset. And the always committed Kristen Wiig is joining him on this ride too. I know I will be watching come June 20 at 8/7c and now the first full trailer has arrived.
My hope here is that they play it completely straight, like every other Lifetime overwrought garbage. I don’t want any self awareness here whatsoever. The new trailer, which you can watch below, certainly seems to be striking that tone, but you can never know. If it is self aware and played for laughs, I will not enjoy it. “So bad it’s good” is a hard thing to accomplish, and often the bad is on purpose for a laugh. That’s why the Sharknado movies anger me. I want complete sincerity that completely falls flat. That’s the magic.
We will see in a few weeks. In the meantime, give the new trailer a watch and see what tone you think they’re going for.
