Spacey Unmasked: Max Acquires U.S. Rights to Kevin Spacey Documentary

Max and ID have acquired the U.S. rights to the Channel 4 documentary Spacey Unmasked, a two-part look at actor Kevin Spacey’s career and subsequent various allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct.

The documentary is set to air in the United Kingdom on May 6-7, 2024, and will presumably make its way to the United States sometime after (via THR). The project is directed by Katherine Haywood and produced by Haywood, Dorothy Byrne, and Mike Lerner.

Alongside a look into Spacey’s life and career, Spacey Unmasked also includes interviews with “multiple men unconnected to that case about their experiences with Kevin Spacey, almost all of whom have never spoken before,” according to a description of the film. Other unseen archival footage is also present in the film, as are interviews with actors.

Once heralded as a legendary actor, Spacey’s career came to a halt in 2017 when he was accused of making sexual advances on then-14-year-old Anthony Rapp (who appeared in a Broadway show with Spacey) in 1986. More allegations came forward following that, leading to Netflix cutting ties with Spacey on their planned film Gore, as well as removing him from the final season of the series House of Cards.

Earlier this year, a U.K. jury found Kevin Spacey not guilty of nine charges of sexual assault, indecent assault, and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Last year, a New York jury also found that Spacey did not sexually assault actor Antony Rapp, who first came forward against Spacey in 2017. Spacey says the results in London should be similar to those in New York.
