Universal and Legendary have just premiered a brand new trailer for Michael Mann‘s upcoming movie Blackhat, a cyber-thriller serving as Mann’s first film in six years and it comes with an early January release if you can believe that. Personally I’m hoping Universal and Legendary sees this as an opportunity to release a quality film during the typical dumping ground of the release schedule where we’re typically watching fourth-rate studio releases and expanding awards contenders.

The flick stars Chris Hemsworth as a furloughed convict, working with his American and Chinese partners as they hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta. There is very little on paper that’s been said about the movie and the cast isn’t exactly big names as Viola Davis is probably the biggest co-star along with the likes of William Mapother, Holt McCallany, Tang Wei and Wang Leehom.

With the recent Sony hack perhaps this will gain a little more steam? Check out the new trailer below and let me know what you think.
