I really love when a studio has some fun with its marketing campaign. I get tired of seeing your typical trailers, posters, and whatnot with films. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) has certainly had its fair share of traditional marketing. Here, however, we have something a little bit different. Fox Searchlight has put together a fake trailer for Birdman Returns, the 1992 sequel starring Michael Keaton‘s character Riggan Thompson.
1992 is, of course, the year when the real film Batman Returns was released, so Searchlight is not shying away from the parallels here whatsoever. The fake trailer is quite a bit of fun, and hearing Keaton’s Birdman call is always funny. They get the style down for one of those early Batman films, including a score emulating Danny Elfman. It is less than a minute long, but I had a fun time watching it.
Give the fake trailer a watch below and catch Birdman in theaters now.
