Watch: Jake Gyllenhaal Needs a Job in Viral Trailer for ‘Nightcrawler’

Dan Gilroy, writer of The Bourne Legacy and Real Steel as well as brother to Tony Gilroy, is making his directorial debut with Nightcrawler, a crime drama, which he also wrote, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a driven young man who finds a home in the nocturnal world of freelance crime journalism in Los Angeles. Gyllenhaal reportedly lost 20 pounds for the role.

In an interesting marketing move, Open Road Films has gone and opened a YouTube account under Gyllenhaal’s character’s name, Louis Bloom, as well as submit a “job wanted” listing on Craigslist, all pointing to the first viral trailer for the film that would appear to at least feature some footage from the film, but it’s unclear just how much may be from the film and how much was shot specifically for this trailer.

It’s widely expected Nightcrawler will make an appearance at at least one, if not several of the upcoming fall film festivals and we may hear its name this coming Tuesday, July 22 as Toronto announces its first wave of films playing at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.

Nightcrawler co-stars Bill Paxton, Rene Russo and Riz Ahmed and IMDb lists an October 17 release date, but I haven’t heard that officially from Open Road just yet so I’m going to hold off saying that’s official.

For now, however, check out this first look directly below.
