Universal Pictures’ has premiered the first trailer for Ouija, a film based on the fortune-telling board game due to hit theaters on October 24.
Directed by Stiles White, the film follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. The supernatural thriller is produced by Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes as well as Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series, The Purge) and stars Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos and Ana Coto.
As far as how these movies get made, Hasbro Chief Marketing Officer John Frascotti was recently interviewed by Business Insider and spoke of Ouija specifically saying, “In cases like Ouija for example, what’s essential is that there’s a brand beneath it that has a lot of potential for storytelling.”
He says this while also saying, “We look for those brands that have story and character at their foundation because inevitably for any type of storytelling format, whether it’s a movie, a television show, a digital comic … it has to have great story and great characters at it’s foundation.” Perhaps he’s just talking out of his ass?
