New Theatrical Trailer for the ‘Oldboy’ Remake

I’m really looking forward to Spike Lee‘s Oldboy remake, largely out of curiosity, but also now for another reason, the work of composer Michael Nyman who took over scoring duties from Lee’s Red Hook Summer composer, Bruce Hornsby. Nyman is best known for his work on The Piano, Gattaca and The End of the Affair, all of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, but it has been some time he scored anything mainstream with the likes of the documentary Man on Wire and the little-seen Johnny Depp starrer The Libertine as the most recognizable titles in his filmography since 99’s End of the Affair.

I don’t know if Nyman’s score was used for this new trailer and I’m inclined to believe it isn’t, or at least expect the actual score will be toned down a bit because I can’t imagine an aggressive score will match some of the imagery we’re seeing in the film’s marketing, it would seem the images would best be served speaking for themselves.

Check out the trailer and let me know what you think.

Oldboy hits theaters on November 27.

Oldboy follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement without any indication of his captor’s motive. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment. His quest for revenge leads him into an ill-fated relationship with a young social worker (Elizabeth Olsen) and ultimately to an illusive man (Sharlto Copley) who allegedly holds the key to his salvation.
