A second international trailer has arrived for Mike Newell‘s Great Expectations has arrived, which I saw in Toronto and wrote in my review, “I think you’ll at least be pleased this isn’t some butchering of the prose and may even quite enjoy it. It is a satisfying telling, but, again, you’ve probably seen better.”
Starring an all-star cast including Jeremy Irvine, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Robbie Coltrane, Jason Flemyng, Sally Hawkins and Holliday Grainger, this is actually a rather serviceable adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, but I would certainly recommend David Lean’s 1946 version first to virgin watchers.
