I have my review written for Leos Carax‘s Holy Motors, but I wanted to present the trailer and a clip from the film before posting it so you had some idea as to what I was talking about before I actually talked about it, because this is not your average movie. In fact, it’s whacked out of its effing mind!
Here’s the synopsis (not that it’s going to help you much):
From dawn to after nightfall, a few hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a shadowy character who journeys from one life to the next. He is, in turn, captain of industry, assassin, beggar, monster, family man…
He seems to be playing roles, plunging headlong into each part… but where are the cameras?
Monsieur Oscar is alone, accompanied only by Celine, the slender blonde woman behind the wheel of the vast engine that transports him in and around Paris.
He’s like a conscientious assassin moving from hit to hit. In pursuit of the purely beautiful act, the mysterious driving force, the women and ghosts of past lives.
But where is his true home, his family, his rest?
In an attempt to simplify things, here’s another look at that synopsis only using about 50% of the words: “Monsieur Oscar is playing roles, plunging headlong into each part. He’s like a conscientious assassin moving from hit to hit. In pursuit of the purely beautiful act, the mysterious driving force, the women and ghosts of past lives.”
Oscar is played by Denis Lavant and he’s joined in the cast primarily by Edith Scob as Celine, but Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue and Michel Piccoli all have small roles in the feature.
For now, check out the clip and trailer directly below and I will post my review for you shortly…
