‘Argo’ Trailer Shows Off Ben Affleck’s Latest

In searching for a screen capture to use for the above image while skimming through this new trailer for Argo I came across the above moment. Referring to Argo as “from Ben Affleck the director The Town” was interesting to me. People know who Ben Affleck is and Affleck even stars in the film and is featured throughout the trailer, is the addition of “the director The Town” necessary and if so what does it add?

Otherwise, this is a film I think we are all interested in seeing, if for no other reason than Affleck has shown to be a competent director and one I’d even argue did a much better job with Gone Baby Gone rather than The Town. As for Argo, it’s based on true events, chronicling the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades. Here are the details:

On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.

Argo hits theaters on October 12. Along with Affleck, the film stars Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Scoot McNairy, Tate Donovan, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, Richard Kind, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Christopher Denham, Victor Garber, Zeljko Ivanek, Chris Messina and Michael Parks.
