Oscar Trailer for ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ and Featurette for ‘Hugo’

Every year it’s going to be easy to look at the Oscar nominations and say something like, “That movie got three nominations while this one got none?” In recent history, films such as Norbit and Click are two such examples and this year I’ve already seen people point to Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which earned three nominations — two for sound and one for effects — but as much as I would have liked to see Shame and We Need to Talk about Kevin get nominations, I don’t think it’s all that realistic for me to think they were highly competitive in those three categories.

So, we shrug our shoulders and move on to where we can now watch a new Academy trailer for Transformers boasting the film’s sound and visuals.

One film Transformers will be competing against in both sound categories and in visual effects is Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, a film I currently have predicted to take home four Oscars, topping Transformers in both sound categories and I think it’s quite obvious, which one Paramount is pushing harder. Transformers gets a short 30-second spot while the following “The Magic of Hugo” is a full 6-minute featurette.

This one is focusing on every creative aspect of the film, not just sound and effects, but other categories the film is nominated in including art direction, costumes and the film’s score from Howard Shore. Give it a watch below and for all of my updated Oscar predictions you can click here.
