TIFF 2011 Preview: First Look Pics, Poster and Teaser Trailer for Post-Apocalypic Thriller ‘The Day’

In terms of overall cast, director Doug Aarniokoski’s The Day was probably the most recognizable feature on this morning’s Toronto Film Festival announcement sheet as the post-apocalyptic thriller includes the likes of Shawn Ashmore (X2: X-Men United, Frozen, The Ruins), Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism), Cory Hardrict (Battle: Los Angeles), Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”, The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Shannyn Sossamon (One Missed Call).

Just looking at some of the pics I’ve received and the teaser trailer for the film I’ve included below, the film has a Book of Eli look to it as it is centered in a post-apocalyptic future where five survivors wander along rural back-roads, lost, starving and on the run. With dwindling food stocks and ammunition, an attempt at seeking shelter turns into a battleground where they must fight or die.

The Day is directed by Douglas Aarniokoski who began is directorial career with Highlander: Endgame in 2000 and since completing The Day he is already at work on Nurse 3D starring “Boardwalk Empire” star Paz De La Huerta and “30 Rock’s” Katrina Bowden. The film has already made headlines with a not safe for work, naked and blood-slathered De La Huerta poster (click here if you haven’t seen that).

As for everything The Day has to offer, you can check out the first teaser trailer directly below and browse my gallery of eight images from the film right here.
