DC Studios has just dropped the trailer for its upcoming movie Clayface. The footage transforms the iconic Batman villain’s origin into a disturbing body-horror story, offering a darker look at one of DC’s most tragic characters.
The movie’s official synopsis reads, “Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”

What do we see in the new Clayface trailer?
The trailer centers around Matt Hagen, who slept with the girlfriend of a local mob boss. However, Hagen realizes that this was a grave mistake when the mob mutilates his face as an act of revenge. Following the attack, Hagen becomes determined to restore his face. He eventually seeks help from a scientist named Dr. Caitlyn Corr. After Dr. Corr injects Hagen with an experimental serum, its side effects prove to be disastrous.
The trailer shows Hagen, played by Tom Rhys Harries, in an airplane. When he rubs his face, the shock of his life awaits him. As his eyelids melt like clay, Hagen panics and runs to the bathroom, where he proceeds to cut his eyelids with scissors. This movie is expected to be gory and will have a lot of body-horror elements.
Directed by James Watkins, the movie will be based on a screenplay by Hossein Amini and Mike Flanagan. The film tells the origin story of the notorious Batman villain Clayface. However, the character of Batman is not likely to make an appearance in the movie. Apart from Harries, the movie will star Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll, and Joshua James.
Clayface will hit the theaters on October 23, 2026.
