Shang-Chi Featurette Highlights the Master of Kung Fu’s MCU Origin Story

Marvel Studios has released the behind-the-scenes featurette for Destin Daniel Cretton’s highly-anticipated superhero martial arts film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, featuring interviews by the director, Kevin Feige and the main cast including Simu Liu and Awkwafina. The PG-13 film is currently slated to hit the theaters on September 3.

The Shang-Chi featurette, which you can check out in the player below along with the new key-art poster, takes us back to the beginning as Feige remembers the first introduction of the Ten Rings into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They also get to explore the Master of Kung-Fu’s origin story including his complicated relationship with his villainous father, The Mandarin as well as Liu’s dedication to the role. In addition to new action-packed footage, it also provides us a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming film’s many stunts.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings stars Canadian actor Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience), who is set to take on the mantle of the titular hero in Marvel Studios’ first Asian superhero-led movie. Shang-Chi must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization.

The film will also star Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Ronny Chieng, Florian Munteanu, Meng’er Zhang, and MCU alum Benedict Wong.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham. It is produced by Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Charles Newirth serving as executive producers.
