Léa Seydoux & Shang-Chi Star’s 95% RT Hit Finally Gets Its Digital Release

A celebrated drama bringing together stars from the James Bond franchise and Marvel’s Shang-Chi is heading to home viewers. The film unites Léa Seydoux and the legendary Tony Leung Chiu-wai on screen. Audiences who missed its limited theatrical run will finally get a chance to see the picture that critics have embraced with a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Silent Friend sets digital streaming release date

Distributor 1-2 Special has reportedly confirmed that Silent Friend will release on VOD and digital platforms on June 30, 2026. The release date announcement comes just weeks after the movie finished its U.S. cinema run, which began on May 8, 2026 (via WhenToStream).

Silent Friend unfolds across three distinct time periods in the historic university town of Marburg, Germany. A majestic ginkgo tree stands as the core of the movie, silently witnessing the interconnected lives of students and academics across generations. In 1908, the university’s first female student made photographic discoveries that exposed sacred patterns hidden within ordinary plants. By 1972, a young scholar’s study of a geranium had profoundly altered her worldview. Finally, in 2020, a neuroscientist conducted pioneering experiments investigating the possibilities of botanical consciousness.

Tony Leung, known to global audiences as the Mandarin in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, stars as Dr. Tony Wong. Léa Seydoux, famous for playing Dr. Madeleine Swann in the James Bond series, plays Dr. Alice Sauvage. The ensemble cast also includes Luna Wedler, Sylvester Groth, and Martin Wuttke.

The film is the latest work from acclaimed Hungarian writer-director Ildikó Enyedi. It world-premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival’s main competition last year, where it got two major prizes. The jury awarded Luna Wedler the Marcello Mastroianni Award for emerging talent, and international critics bestowed the FIPRESCI Prize on the production. A German theatrical release followed via Pandora Film in January 2026.
