Robert Luketic to direct The Wedding Year, starring Sarah Hyland
Lakeshore Entertainment announced today that rom-com veteran Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, Monster-in-Law, The Ugly Truth) will direct the ensemble romantic comedy The Wedding Year, with award-winning actress Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) leading the cast. Don Diego wrote the screenplay.
In the film, LA photographer Mara Hickey (Hyland) is never getting married. So, when she and her new ready-to-settle-down boyfriend are invited to fifteen weddings in the same year, the pressure is on Mara to make some big decisions.
Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi, Marc Reid and Mark Korshak will produce. Sarah Hyland will executive produce. Production will begin in Los Angeles on May 21st, 2018.
This will mark Robert Luketic’s second collaboration with Lakeshore, following the 2009 smash hit rom-com The Ugly Truth, starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.
Lakeshore’s Gary Lucchesi commented, “all of us at Lakeshore are delighted to be collaborating with Robert once again. He is a wonderful director and we had a great success together with The Ugly Truth.”
Luketic responded, “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Lakeshore team in the past and I am excited to be directing a film that will bring a fresh and modern approach to romantic comedy.”
Luketic is well known for beloved, wildly successful romantic comedy classics such as Legally Blonde, starring Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair and Luke Wilson, and Monster-in-Law, featuring Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez. He also directed popular card counting casino thriller, 21, starring Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth, as well as episodes of the much-loved, award-winning comedy series Jane the Virgin.
Actress Sarah Hyland is best known for her ongoing role as ‘Haley Dunphy’ in the multiple award-winning comedy Modern Family, which first aired in 2009. She can currently be seen on Season 9 of the series, with Season 10 set to be released next year. Her most recent feature film role was in Netflix’s electronic music drama XOXO, on which she also served as Executive Producer. Hyland developed The Wedding Year with Lakeshore and will be serving as an Executive Producer on the film as well.
Hyland is managed by RKM and represented by WME Entertainment and Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown. Luketic is managed by Mosaic and represented by CAA and Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal Laviolette Feldman Schenkman & Goodman.
Lakeshore will be presenting The Wedding Year for sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, in parallel with the rest of the company’s slate.
