Ralph Fiennes, Hugh Laurie Join Will Ferrell in Holmes and Watson

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the Oscar-nominated Ralph Fiennes (The English PatientSchindler’s List) and the Emmy-nominated Hugh Laurie (House M.D.) have been tapped to join Sony’s upcoming Holmes and Watson, a comedic take on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Will Ferrell will play the titular detective, with John C. Reilly set to play his mustachiod sidekick, Dr. Watson.

The outlet reports that the pair will be playing two other characters from the Sherlock Holmes stories, meaning one could be playing the role of Sherlock’s older brother Mycroft Holmes and the other perhaps his nemesis, Professor James Moriarty.

Recently, Fiennes appeared in the Coen brother’s Hail, Caesar! and lent his voice to the LAIKA animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings. He can next be heard in the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie as the voice of Alfred Pennyworth. Laurie recently appeared on the Hulu series Chance, which premiered in October 2016 and is set to have its second season debut later this year.

Holmes and Watson will be directed by Etan Cohen, who recently directed Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Get Hard. This marks the third collaboration between Ferrell and Reilly following Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. Set up with Mosaic and Gary Sanchez Productions producing, Holmes and Watson has already begun shooting in London.
