Richard Linklater is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the studio’s The Incredible Mr. Limpet, reports 24 Frames.
The movie is a remake of the 1964 Don Knotts film classic about milquetoast Henry Limpet, who experiences his fondest wish and is transformed into a fish. As a talking fish he assists the US Navy in hunting German submarines during World War II. The original film was based on the novel by Theodore Pratt.
Enchanted director Kevin Lima was previously attached to direct. Zach Galifianakis was also said to be in talks for the lead role, but that was not confirmed.
Linklater’s film credits include Before Sunrise, Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly, Slacker and Bad News Bears.
