Season 2 of Daredevil to be “Daredevil vs. The Punisher”

After the announcement that Jon Bernthal would be portraying Frank Castle aka The Punisher in season 2 of Netflix’s “Daredevil,” people have been curious about how much of an impact the character would have on the show. Would he show up for just one episode? Would he be a major player in the series? According to one of the new “Daredevil” showrunners, it looks like he might be more important than we originally thought.

“Daredevil” co-showrunner Marco Ramirez described the new season to Nerdist as “Daredevil vs. The Punisher.” The Punisher has always been a character that often finds himself on the opposite sides of the heroes. His methods, usually including murder, going against the morals of most the heroes in the Marvel Universe. So, based on that description we can expect some fisticuffs between Castle and Daredevil.

This, however, doesn’t mean The Punisher is the “big bad” for the season. A reasonable guess is we can expect The Punisher and Daredevil to have friction over the methods of dealing with the villains of Hell’s Kitchen. With Wilson Fisk out of power (for now), there will be one or more people trying to make a play for Fisk’s role. We can assume that DD and The Punisher will fight at first, but settle their differences over the common enemy, as these stories tend to work out that way.

I do love the idea of using The Punisher in more of a villain role. In the movies, they tend to dilute the character by trying to make him more heroic than he normally is. As a supporting character, the pressure isn’t on Frank Castle to lead the way, therefore they can take more risks with the character and I can’t wait to see what they do.

“Daredevil” season 2 is set to premiere in 2016.
