Cannes: Colin Farrell & Rachel Weisz are On the Run in New ‘The Lobster’ Picture & Posters

One of the many films I’m upset I’m missing at this year’s Cannes Film Festival is Yorgos LanthimosThe Lobster. Lanthimos’ Dogtooth was one of the most pleasantly surprising and thought-provoking films of 2010 and while Alps a couple years later was a bit of a letdown, he’s packed his newest feature (and English language debut) with a cast worth getting excited over.

Described as an unconventional love story, the film is set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the rules of the Town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the woods. A desperate Man escapes from the Hotel to the Woods where the Loners live and there he falls in love, although it’s against their rules.

Based on the first look image above and the new posters beow it would make sense to assume Colin Farrell (who’s about to star in the second season of “True Detective”) plays the “Man” in that synopsis and Rachel Weisz the woman he falls in love with, but the cast doesn’t end there. The film also stars Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, Olivia Colman, John C. Reilly, Ashley Jensen and Jessica Barden. Interested?
