Natalie Portman‘s feature directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness will play at this year’s Cannes Film Festival as a part of the Special Screenings selection. Portman previously directed the short film Eve in 2008 and a segment of New York, I Love You that same year, but this drama based on Amos Oz‘s international best-selling memoir marks her first foray into feature filmmaking.

The film details young Amos’ relationship with his mother and his birth as a writer, looking at what happens when the stories we tell, become the stories we live.

The film co-stars Gilad Kahana, Shira Haas and Makram Khoury and is still looking for distribution.
