‘San Andreas’, ‘Minions’, ‘No Escape’, ‘Hot Pursuit’ and More in Today’s MPAA Ratings Bulletin

Dwayne Johnson‘s latest actioner San Andreas is another PG-13 rated visual effects piece of disaster porn as the MPAA promises “intense disaster action and mayhem throughout”. Can’t wait! There’s more PG-13 goodness in the Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara comedy Hot Pursuit, but the rest of this week’s highlights are all R-rated, that is, except for the PG-rated Minions, but, well, you know…

Two movies we reviewed out of SXSW are coming soon and both are rated R in the form of Adult Beginners and The Overnight. Also, the Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan “trouble in Southeast Asia” movie, No Escape, has an updated R rating. The original rating back in July 2014 was for “strong violence including a sexual assault, and for language”, and this new rating is pretty much the same, but it’s missing the “including a sexual assault” bit. Wonder what happened there…

Finally, there’s a rating for Frankenstein and with Victor Frankenstein with Daniel Radcliffe coming later this year I looked into what exactly this was. Turns out it’s from Eclectic Pictures and stars Xavier Samuel, Carrie-Anne Moss, Tony Todd and Danny Huston and it’s set in present day Los Angeles and told entirely from the perspective of the Monster. After he is artificially created, then left for dead by a husband-and-wife team of eccentric scientists, Adam is confronted with nothing but aggression and violence from the world around him. This perfect creation-turned disfigured monster must come to grips with the horrific nature of humanity.

What’s weird about this one is the poster, which you see to the right, is using numbers in its title. Why? I have no idea, but I have to say, I hate it when movies do that.
