First Picture of Charlie Hunnam on the Set of Guy Ritchie’s ‘King Arthur’

Director Guy Ritchie offers up the first picture of Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”, Pacific Rim) as the title star in Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur as production has just begun on what Warner Bros. hopes will be their very own medieval franchise. Astrid Berges-Frisbey stars as Guinevere and Jude Law will play the film’s villain, Vortigern. Additionally, Eric Bana will paly Arthur’s father Uther Pendragon, Djimon Hounsou is Resistance leader Bedivere, Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”) is Goosefat Bill and Mikael Persbrandt is rumored for a role.

The official synopsis goes as follows:

The bold new story introduces a streetwise young Arthur who runs the back alleys of Londinium with his gang, unaware of the life he was born for until he grasps hold of the sword Excalibur–and with it, his future. Instantly challenged by the power of Excalibur, Arthur is forced to make some hard choices. Throwing in with the Resistance and a mysterious young woman named Guinevere, he must learn to master the sword, face down his demons and unite the people to defeat the tyrant Vortigern, who stole his crown and murdered his parents, and become King.

Set for a July 22, 2016 release, the pic was written by Joby Harold whose only real film credit is the rather abysmal Awake, which I live blogged way back in the day if you’re interested in getting a glimpse at some of my earlier “work”.
