Fox Now Cancels Gore Verbinski & Steve Carell North Korean Set Thriller

We are living in a state of fear as we’ve learned today Sony has The Interview as a result of threats from the hacker group “Guardians of Peace” and now Fox has decided to not even let things get that far.

Deadline reports Fox and New Regency have scrapped an untitled North Korean-set thriller that was being developed by director Gore Verbinski with Steve Carell to star.

The pic was set up in October with plans to begin shooting March 2015. The studio has decided to drop the pic altogether rather than change the setting.

Personally, I don’t know what to make of all this. To simply give in is to simply give up, but can I really blame these companies for making a decision based on what are actually some serious threats? Is Hollywood being overly paranoid? Clearly we’re working under the assumption North Korea is behind the threats against The Interview, but is simply stopping the release of a Seth Rogen and James Franco comedy really the answer? Have these people never seen Team America?
