Watch: Meryl Streep Performing “Stay With Me” from ‘Into the Woods’

Stay With Me” has been a large part of the marketing for the upcoming Into the Woods film. That is understandable. Meryl Streep is a big selling point as The Witch. Also, she crushes this song, at least the portions of it I have heard. Thanks to Playbill, we have extended look at Streep’s take on the song, which you can watch below.

It is the first time we really get the beltier side of Streep’s singing, and I was certainly impressed by it. The scene also features some very good crying with Mackenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel. Before the snippet of the scene, we are treated with brief junket material with Streep, book writer and screenwriter James Lapine, and composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, both of whom sing (and by sing I mean speak) the praises of Meryl Streep. Controversial, I know.

There is still a good chance this film falls completely on its face. It’s a delicate piece of material, and Rob Marshall could screw it up. But, I am excited. I don’t care who knows it. Again, you can watch the clip below.
