‘Equalizer’, ‘Fury’, ‘Horns’, ‘Nightcrawler’ and More in Today’s MPAA Ratings Bulletin

With so many hard “R” ratings in today’s MPAA ratings bulletin it’s mildly comical to me that one of them is not Dracula Untold, the Luke Evans starrer that will take a new look at the blood sucking king of all vampires and deliver it in PG-13 fashion. Ugh.

As for those hard “R” movies, let’s begin with Antoine Fuqua‘s The Equalizer of which he spoke with Collider regarding making a hard “R” rated film saying:

The violence you witness is Denzel doing it and we’re taking some visual effects and doing some things and you see something happen it’s happening in front of you as opposed to cutting away and doing a bunch of tricks. It’s in front of you.

So it’s hard not to make it a hard ‘R’ if you see a guy get punched and teeth wind up in someone’s knuckles, you know what I mean? I don’t think you can get away with a PG. (laughter) Some other things I can tell you, you’ll never look at corkscrews again. (laughter) I’ll tell you that. It’s hardcore. There’s some stuff that even I go, ‘wow, okay’. (laughter) We’ll see what happens.

Add to that one a hard “R” for David Ayer‘s Fury starring Brad Pitt, another for Alexandre Aja‘s Horns starring Daniel Radcliffe and I fully expect Dan Gilroy‘s Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal to have its moments with that “R”-rating.

The “R” ratings continue with The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall and another for Mike Leigh‘s Mr. Turner starring Timothy Spall before getting to a cuddly PG-13 for James Marsh‘s The Theory Of Everything.

Oh, and the rating for the movie titled Mall is the one from Linkin Park’s Joseph Hahn, it sounds pretty gnarly as well, for more on that one watch the first trailer here, otherwise the complete bulletin is directly below.
