New ‘Gone Girl’ Picture, David Fincher’s Film Will Open the New York Film Festival

It didn’t take much to speculate which film was most likely to open this year’s New York Film Festival and last night it was confirmed that movie would be David Fincher‘s Gone Girl and with the announcement comes the above new (and unremarkable) picture from the movie courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, will have its world premiere as the opening night gala screening at the festival on September 26, just ahead of its October 3 release.

Gone Girl is so many things at once: sharp as a razor about many aspects of American life that have been untouched by movies, very tough and just as funny, brilliantly acted, and 100% entertaining — a wild ride from start to finish,” New York Film Festival director Kent Jones said in a press release announcing the news on Thursday. “In short, a great American movie based on a literary phenomenon, directed by one of the best filmmakers alive. I’m so proud to have the world premiere of this film as our opening night.”

Gone Girl unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage. On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife? Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens and Patrick Fugit co-star.
