With AMC ordering two seasons comprised of 23 episodes when it comes to the “Breaking Bad” spin-off “Better Call Saul” it means we’re going to have to wait a little longer for the series to arrive as it’s expected to premiere some time in early 2015. Until now details have been sketchy as to what exactly the show will be about, outside of obviously centering on Bob Odenkirk‘s “Breaking Bad” character Saul Goodman, but series creator and writer Vince Gilligan has revealed a little more information recently, speaking to the audience at the Television Critics Association (via Indiewire) and AMC has issued an official press release with the first official synopsis.
Gilligan described it as a “period piece” that will be set in 2002 while adding, “We like jumping around in time… I would definitely point you in the direction that anything that’s possible in the world of ‘Breaking Bad’ is possible.”
Here’s that official synopsis:
The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is “fixer” Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in ‘Breaking Bad.’ The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “Criminal lawyer.” The series’ tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.
All that said, there has always been talk of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) cameos and with what Gilligan is describing it almost sounds like they may fast forward all the way to the period during which “Breaking Bad” is set. Perhaps they’ll use deleted sequences from the “Breaking Bad” series to tie into the story in “Better Call Saul”? That might be a little fun.
Either way, here’s a second new picture from the series, which is still a ways in the future.
