What happens in The Uprising trailer?
The trailer gives fans a glimpse of Garfield’s character leading the revolt against King Richard II in the 14th century. The footage teases a group of commoners rising against royal authority in a fight for survival and equality.
Previously known as The Hood, the film was once set to feature Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. It went through its first title change, becoming The Rage, with Matthew McConaughey set to star. Finally, it arrived on its official title, The Uprising, late last year, by which point Garfield had boarded the project.
The Uprising marks Greengrass’ first foray into a time period before the 20th century. The filmmaker is best known for helming the tense Bourne films, as well as other thrillers such as Captain Phillips and The Lost Bus.
Besides Garfield, the film stars Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston, and Sky Yang. The Uprising is written and directed by Paul Greengrass. The film is produced by Jason Blum, Paul Greengrass, Gregory Goodman, Joanna Kaye, Joe Neurauter, and Lars Sylvest.
Andrew Garfield will next be seen in Artificial, where he’ll play OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, though whether it will be released to the public this year remains to be seen.
The Uprising releases in theaters on September 11, 2026.
