Well finally, finally there is some news regarding the second season of HBO’s “True Detective” worth reporting as The Wrap says Colin Farrell is in talks for one of the lead roles with Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Lone Survivor) in contention to play one of the season’s other characters and Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy) also rumored to be circling a role.
Series writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto was recently quoted by The Daily Beast discussing the second season and said he’s expanded on the characters he originally started with when he began writing saying, “[T]hey’ve deepened and become richer… I would say there are four central roles.”
If we’re to gain anything from this casting story from The Wrap, three of those roles belong to males while there was hope the second season would be driven by at least one female character if not more. Perhaps it stands to assume the fourth role is a female role.
As for these new characters, Pizzolatto also said, “Creating new characters for Season 2 was the same experience as creating Rust and Marty. They didn’t exist until I created them, then in their creation I developed a personal attachment to them. I think it’s the same in anything you write. It’s your job to come up with compelling characters who speak to an individual authenticity. If I’m not interested in the characters I can’t go on. I have to be fascinated by them. It’s the same job as Season 1 to me.”
He also said this second season will be set in “lesser known venues of California”.
What’s curious is in the same piece, posted only a day ago, Pizzolatto said they haven’t even started casting yet and he’s only “hitting the halfway mark on the scripts.”
So, I guess we’ll see how this all shapes out, but I must say, I do like the idea of Colin Farrell in the kind of world Pizzolatto creates… a lot.
