‘Transformers’ Tops ‘Tammy’ at Soft July 4 Friday Box Office

No one is surprised to see Transformers: Age of Extinction is going to take the #1 spot at the box office this weekend, a softer weekend than we’ve seen in July 4 history, but that’s what happens when you open the big blockbuster a week early and you put it up against the likes of an R-rated comedy and an R-rated thriller.

As for that R-rated comedy, Melissa McCarthy‘s Tammy took in $11.7 million in its first two days and yesterday, added $6.4 million as it’s likely to end the weekend around $17-18 million, which — I don’t know — is that good?

Deliver Us from Evil has basically done nothing, bringing in $5.5 million in its first two days since opening on Wednesday and adding only $2.53 million on Friday, looking at a weekend around $7 million. Considering the predictions for that one and even the $15 million, which includes Thursday, that’s not a good result.

As for that #1 spot, that’s Transformers: Age of Extinction coming in with $10.6 million, likely on its way to a $40 million or so second weekend for a 60% drop. As of now, the film is $55.5 million behind Transformers: Dark of the Moon domestically, but expectation is the total that comes in from China alone might top the domestic take for Age of Extinction.

Finally, Earth to Echo, a film that was produced by Disney but tossed aside once deemed not family friendly enough. The Relativity release brought in $2.63 million in its first day, which should result in something around an $8 million opening, maybe a little higher.

And that’s about it for me today, I’ll have a full weekend update for you tomorrow morning and actuals on Monday, enjoy your Saturday. [BOM]
