Jon Spaihts To Rewrite Marvel’s ‘Dr. Strange’

One of the many movies currently on the Marvel burner is Dr. Strange with Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us from Evil, Sinister) directing and a screenplay written by Thomas Dean Donnelly (Sahara, that awful Conan remake) and Joshua Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing). While Marvel has yet to officially announce the film or even recognize Derrickson as its director, likely as they’re waiting to settle on a star, things continue to move forward and the latest addition to the team is screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) whose been brought on to rewrite the screenplay.

Dr. Strange was character born of the 1960s and is a surgeon that suffers a life-changing car accident and eventually heads to the Himalayas, gains psychic powers and saves the day, protecting the Earth against magical and mystical threats.

As for who might play the character, right now Deadline reports it’s the three previous names mentioned, those being Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto on the shortlist. The film is expected some time in 2016.
