Nicolas Winding Refn Eyes ‘The Bringing’ as Next Movie

Nicolas Winding Refn is currently busy serving on the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but news has recently surfaced that he is eying a film titled The Bringing as his next feature.

Set up at Sony Pictures, the screenplay was written by Brandon and Phillip Murphy, inspired by the viral “video of a young woman who displayed erratic behavior in an elevator at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, the place where such killers as Richard Ramirez called home at one time or other, and where numerous suicides have occurred. The woman, Elisa Lam, was found dead in the water tanks at the roof of the hotel.” See the video at the bottom of this post.

The script has nothing really to do with that the Lam tragedy, but its inspiration led to a story that will contain supernatural elements as it follows a man investigating a death at the hotel.

Refn is coming off Only God Forgives and while he’s had projects in the fire, including a remake of Logan’s Run as well as The Equalizer at Sony, which he eventually dropped. The Bringing would give him another chance for a film at Sony. [Deadline]
