This month, at a post-screening Q&A I attended for The Guest, moderator Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive) told the crowd that he was not doing The Bringing, Sony’s supernatural thriller inspired by the Elisa Lam case here in Los Angeles. That left the director’s seat wind open, well, for anyone.
Deadline says Jeremy Lovering is in discussions to helm the film which was penned by Brandon and Phillip Murphy.
Lovering helmed the UK thriller In Fear which was released Stateside earlier this year.
The Elisa Lam story, in case you had not followed it, received wide attention when her video hit the web.
It was the last footage taken of her before her body was found in a water tank on the roof of the Cecil Hotel in L.A. It’s quite a strange case because this woman acted like she was being pursued by someone who apparently isn’t there. Further, the elevator doors don’t respond to her.
How the Murphys expanded on this and made a film out of it is unknown. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
