Rapace to Star Opposite Smith in ‘Brilliance’, Giacchino to Score ‘Jurassic World’

Noomi Rapace has just signed on to star opposite Will Smith in Brilliance for Nigerian-born director Julius Onah (God Particle, Big Man) with a script from David Koepp (Premium Rush, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit).

Adapted from Marcus Sakey‘s novel (the first in a planned trilogy), the film is set in a world where 1% of the children born are savants (aka “brilliants”) with special powers. A federal agent who has become a master hunter of terrorists must track down a savant terrorist who intends to start civil war. Legendary Picrtures wants the movie to go into production by August. Jane Campion will be busy the next couple weeks as she heads the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, but in the meantime she’s nearing a deal to direct an adaptation of Rachel Kushner’s New York Times bestseller “The Flamethrowers.” Here’s the Amazon description:

The year is 1975 and Reno–so-called because of the place of her birth–has come to New York intent on turning her fascination with motorcycles and speed into art. Her arrival coincides with an explosion of activity in the art world–artists have colonized a deserted and industrial SoHo, are staging actions in the East Village, and are blurring the line between life and art. Reno meets a group of dreamers and raconteurs who submit her to a sentimental education of sorts. Ardent, vulnerable, and bold, she begins an affair with an artist named Sandro Valera, the semi-estranged scion of an Italian tire and motorcycle empire. When they visit Sandro’s family home in Italy, Reno falls in with members of the radical movement that overtook Italy in the seventies. Betrayal sends her reeling into a clandestine undertow.

Scott Rudin is on board to produce. [The Guardian]
