Wedge Antilles Not Coming Back for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Denis Lawson has had a long career as an actor, but he’s probably best known to most as Wedge Antilles, a Rebel pilot that appeared in all three of George Lucas‘ original Star Wars films. Of course, it isn’t as if Wedge is a character often discussed, which makes writing about him a little odd, especially dedicating an entire headline to his character whom we’ve now learned won’t return to the play the character in Star Wars: Episode VII. So why write about him? Well…

Lawson was actually approached to reprise Wedge once again in the new film to be directed by J.J. Abrams though he tells The Courier, “I’m not going to do that… They asked me but it just would have bored me.”

Personally, I find that interesting. There are no other reasons given for why he passed, but I have to assume it wasn’t a large role or even all that involved in the plot. After all, he was part of the attack on the first Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, defended the Hoth base in Empire Strikes Back and then was back destroying the Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Quit the career, maybe it’s best he go out on a high note.
