Han Solo Considered Co-Lead in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Some new Star Wars: Episode VII details have emerged as a result of an article at Entertainment Weekly, the most interesting of which comes from several sources telling the mag Harrison Ford as Han Solo will be one of the film’s leads alongside three young stars. The young stars are widely presumed to be John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and the as-yet cast second major female character.

In addition to this, Ford along with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were actually lined up to be in the film before George Lucas ever sold Lucasfilm to Disney with Lucas actually meeting with all three in advance. With Ford presumed to be one of the leads, Hamill and Fisher are said to “boast strong supporting parts”, which I look at as good news considering we’ve had enough films dealing with the Skywalker family, it’s time for something new.

The EW article also includes some great Ford quotes with him referring to Han Solo saying, “He’s dumb as a stump.” When EW‘s Anthony Breznican replies, “He’s a cultural institution,” Ford just adds, “At no credit to the culture for embracing him as a hero.”

Finally, while the full title for the film is rumored to be Star Wars: Episode VII – An Ancient Fear, Conan O’Brien had some fun with this on a recent episode. Here’s the resulting video.
