I’m going to go out on a limb and say the decision to release the first poster for the upcoming Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit has a lot to do with the fact the author who created the lead character, Tom Clancy, passed away today. Whether you think taking advantage of someone’s death to help sell your movie is cool or not, I’ll leave that decision up to you.
As for the film, Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) plays Clancy’s most popular character, Jack Ryan, the ex-Marine turned analyst whose been played in previous films by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Here, Ryan is a financial analyst living in Moscow who uncovers a terrorist plot.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh (who also stars as the film’s villain), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit co-stars Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner, Nonso Anozie and David Paymer. The film is currently slated for a Christmas Day release, but that may change soon depending on what Paramount decides to do with Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street. For now the poster simply says “Coming Soon” which tells me the rumored January 17 date is looking more and more likely.
For now, however, here’s the poster and you can click here for some pictures from the film.
